Plays nice with others

Our final Classcast output is now playable on any platform supporting m4v playback.

We have also been able to decrease our size through using a 3GP codec to compress the webcam portion to a more bandwidth friendly format.

There is still issues with our playback on the iPhone, as only one video stream is currently being output. We hope to resolve those before the final delivery on April 13th (fingers crossed). The other outstanding issue with the iPhone is that it doesn’t pick up our chapter tracks, although both Quicktime and iTunes do.

A quick update

Chris has improved QTCombiner:
- added XML timings for slides
- added chaptering for slides based on xml timings
- flexible output resolutions
- much more modular design
- javadocs for all the new sections

The current QTCombiner MOV does not correctly render on the iPhone simulator or under Windows. If the QTCombiner MOV container is exported from within quicktime to a desktop or iphone quality (M4V format) it will playback on both. This flattens the video to a single video and audio stream, but also looses the chaptering that Chris implemented.

Size is currently an issue, as the output file size is just over 300MB which is allot of bandwidth for an entire class to download for each lecture.

The iPhone app:
- Saro is working on RSS reader to capture the classcast feeds that will be directed into our player (currently handled by the built-in)
- Once we have decided on the final qtcombiner format (mov/m4v), the player’s capabilities will be focused on. Currently looking through the sample player from the Apple developer’s page to use as a base.

Also, you can check out a short sample of our QTCombiner’s output if you are running OSX. If you are running under Windows, you will only see the webcam stream currently, as the Windows QuickTime does not support PDF rendering.
